Research topic: Intelligent Dental Implant: In the field of implants, osseointegration is crucial for successful oral rehabilitation in edentulous patients. The problem with current dental implants is that the risk is still high, especially in patients that have diseases affecting the oral region (osteoporosis, periodontitis, diabetes, etc.). When the patient experiences one or more of these diseases, the interface between the bone and implant is compromised and patients can experience low success rates or insufficient remaining bone structure. We plan to solve this problem by developing a porous titanium dental implant to create material properties closest to bone and enhance osseointegration. Furthermore, this porous implant will include a wireless embedded sensor with a data-acquisition system to enable monitoring the behavior of the implant after installation.
